Off-road commuter network
Imagine riding to work off-road. Well, Trails Wellington has been thinking about just that and we've designed an off-road commuter network for our city to complement the Paneke Poneke cycleways (bike network plan).
First builds
Trails Wellington has subsequently been working with WCC to build some of these Poneke off-road commuter trails. These commuter trails are wide and relatively flat and are the equivalent of a grade two mountain bike trail, so they will be great recreational assets as well as benefiting cycle commuters.
The Matarangi section of the network is due to be completed in 2025 and will start at the top of Crawford Road, cross the spine of Matairangi and join an existing commuter trail at the Velodrome that goes through to Majoribanks St. Commuters will then be able to ride from Crawford Rd (Kilbirnie) all the way to Marjoribanks St in Mt Victoria.
