New Volly group, dreams of new trails

Trails Wellington and the newly formed Miramar Track Project volunteer group are keen to add a couple of new trails to this trail area.

The first new trail that they are proposing and working through the design with WCC would run down the Western side of the Main Summit road heading down to Shelley Bay.  This is likely to be a grade 3 descending trail and would complement the Piki Ki Maupuia uphill trail, enabling a loop ride. This trail has support from WCC, but further engagement with local Iwi is necessary.

Another proposed trail in Maupuia is for a new uphill shared walking /riding track running from Aramoana Pl to the Pump Track up by the summit.

Land Ownership Changing

The Reserve land is currently owned by central government agencies, LINZ and Corrections, and is going to be transferred to the Department of Conservation and managed by WCC.  This ownership change is likely to happen in 2025.

The future

Trails Wellington is looking to work with WCC to seek great outcomes from a trail and ecology restoration perspective in this area.
